Monster House Characters

The lower part of her face has the same wider roof and a platform where the door should be. When awakened or disturbed, her mouth shows small wooden plank-like teeth framed by the door. However, DJ accidentally desecrated Constance's remains by breaking the concrete casing that covered the corpse, revealing the skeleton and inciting the house's fury. The house then picks them up one by one after spotting the kids before they find the place to hide. The house had the slinkies snatch Chowder before doing the same on the pipes (organs) that snatch Jenny and had the wooden stairs attack DJ, who barely escaped back to the hall that turned into a mouth cavity, with his friends nearly devoured.

Provoked, she attempted to chase them off as Nebbercracker tries to stop her, only to be knocked out as she stumbled and fell into the unfinished basement with her body accidentally being coated in cement, suffocating her. Nebbercracker then finished the house's construction in Constance's memory, but her vengeful spirit soon merged with it. Over the years, Nebbercracker feigned aggression to protect innocent people from her. Later on, when DJ and Chowder go to investigate the house, Chowder, who doesn't believe strange things are occurring inside the house, crawls towards the house to try and prove DJ wrong. He discovers Bones' empty bottle, but dismisses it and tosses it aside, not noticing the possessed grass on the lawn pulling it underground.

Appearance

As DJ and Chowder argue about their ideas, and that Chowder risked his life for DJ for stealing drugs for him and DJ says that it was Chowders idea to make DJ retrieve Chowder's ball back and DJ then hastily heads for home. As he does, he nearly gets run over by an ambulance hijacked by Nebbercracker and the trio are surprised to see that arrives home alive, but with his arm in a sling. One day, when Chowder accidentally had his basketball accidentally flew onto Nebbercracker's lawn and prompt DJ to immediately bring it back, Nebbercracker ambushes and storms towards him.

They manage to formulate a plan where Chowder will lure the house under a crane so that the two can drop the stick of dynamite down its chimney which leads to the heart. This plan is stalled, however, when the house is dragged down the hill and it breaks apart as a result, leading to the heroes celebrating their apparent victory. This celebration is short-lived, however, as Constance's control over the house is still intact and she manages to reform it from its broken remains, resulting in a more horrific and monstrous form that proceeds to devour the excavator before chasing Chowder. As they make a plan to kill the house, Chowder provides a dummy filled with cold medicine that should cause the house to sleep long enough for them to douse the furnace. The plan almost succeeds, but Officers Landers and Lester arrive and thwart it.

Officers Landers and Lister

However, they realize that the house knows better than to come alive when adults are present. On that day, the children throw rocks at her, in which she responds by asking Nebbercracker for help. But as he says so, the children continue to provoke her, prompting her to scare them away with an axe. She presumably instantly dies upon impact due to her weight that crushed her spine, followed by cement that spilled on her and buried her corpse. Though implied that she may have survived the fall, she died after she was buried alive by cement. Not much is known about Constance's early life, aside from the fact that she once a circus freak star.

When Bones leaves for home, he sees the kite which he lost long ago in the doorway of Nebbercracker's house. DJ and Jenny are knocked into the remains of the lake as a result of Chowder's fight with the house. DJ asks Chowder to lure the house under a crane so he can throw the dynamite down the chimney leading to the heart. The scuffle causes both Chowder and Constance to fall down the hill, with the house falling apart. However, Constance reassembles the house, giving it a more threatening appearance.

When he was a young man, he met an obese woman, Constance, at a circus and fell in love with her. Mr. Nebbercracker hates kids and confiscates everything that lands on his lawn, telling people to stay off it and from his house due to his knowledge that the house is sapient. Beneath that rotten surface, however, there lies a sad man with justifiable reasons as to why he would behave horribly grumpy. All spoilers are unmarked. Shortly afterwards, an ambulance arrives to take Nebbercracker to the hospital as DJ and Chowder look on in dismay. To make matters worse, Nebbercracker's departure causes Constance's spirit within the house to awaken, and with Nebbercracker gone, there is no one to keep her calm.

After enduring some teasing from Zee and her boyfriend, Bones, DJ sees the shades on one of the house’s second floor windows open, and calls Chowder to meet up with him so they can investigate the house. Meanwhile, Bones (who had lost his kite when he was 10 years old) expresses his anger and sadness over his stolen kite on Nebbercracker's house by damaging the lawn. When Constance sees this, she possesses his kite within the basement, and uses it to lure Bones closer. Unaware that this is a trap, Bones approaches the kite, only to be pulled into the house by it. He has been dedicating his time to spying on Mr. Nebbercracker through his telescope for a few years after the old man becomes known for scaring kids and stealing their toys and is called crazy for his obsession with it. Believing a hidden truth to the sapient house, DJ convinces his best friend Chowder and new friend Jenny to explore inside it no matter the circumstances to unveil the mystery on Halloween night.

While exploring, Chowder mistakes the chandelier (the uvula) for the heart, they shoot which causes the house to vomit a little bit of green slime water outside and a search light which is the monster's eye appears to find any intruders inside the house's interior. Jenny explains to Chowder that the chandelier is the uvula and it stimulates the gag reflex and everyone has a uvula. From adulthood, Nebbercracker was a rather caring and understanding person, looking passed the overweight appearance of Constance who was treated as sideshow attraction; to the point of even falling in love with her and taking her from her former life. He soon found a place where the two of them could build a life for themselves, where he also built his house. Nebbercracker, when he was younger, was a member of a demolition squad in the US Army.

Constance then feasts on the police car; DJ, Chowder, and Jenny are able to escape from the car, but are then trapped inside the house. Aware that the old man cannot do that forever, DJ convinces Nebbercracker to put her out of her misery as this is the better way. Therefore, Constance has suffered too long and despite his benevolent intentions to keep the children away from the house, it won't improve either of their lives, which didn't help by her meant to pass on to the afterlife long ago. The four of them run in terror, going down an alleyway where Nebbercracker is forced to stay behind due to his old age preventing him from keeping up and encouraging the kids to go on without him.

45 years later, Chowder's basketball accidentally ends up in Horace's front lawn the day before Halloween and he prompts DJ to retrieve it. Horace catches DJ and storms out of the house, lifting the boy up and yelling at him to stay away from his house after DJ accidentally ripped out a very small patch of grass on the lawn with his own foot. However, this proves to be a great mistake; due to his old age, his body cannot endure DJ's weight, and at the same time, he suffers a heart attack from shouting at him, breaking some bones in the process and falling unconscious afterwards. Nebbercracker returns from the hospital alive and well and it is revealed that Constance is the house.

Promoted by movie theater lobby posters warning, “There goes the neighborhood,” instead of darkening the cinematic world, Monster House added to a vivid cinematic experience. Mixing humor, horror, and a poignant message of the dangers of bullying and needs for acceptance, the film also blended Gothic elements with a kids’ friendship caper. Its creepy animation and intense, scary nature earned the film a PG rating, though some experts in the field, including Michael Medved, argued it should have been assigned a PG-13 rating.

Things suddenly became worse as the house reveals its true nature and devours Officer Landers alive while sadistically playing with Officer Lister that it grabbed via branches, before it eventually tossed him into its mouth. On one Halloween day, after the house had been half-way built, two trouble-making children came by to throw rocks at it. As Horace has just started to take apart the cage his wife was formerly forced to live in with an ax, Constance came to him and begged him to help stop the kids from further damaging their property. Horace attempts to calm her down by saying that they are just children merely joking because it was Halloween and vowing to never let anyone hurt her again as long as he's here. But just after that, one of the boys throws an egg at Constance, making her lose her temper.

As the medics put Nebbercracker's body on a carriage, she possesses grass on the lawn and tried to prevent them from leaving, but failed. None of anyone aware with this, while her spirit, from the house's window, glares on unsuspecting DJ and Chowder, causes it to crack before they left. After DJ, Chowder, and Jenny manage to defeat and destroy the house, Nebbercracker is seen dancing with Constance's ghost before she goes on to the afterlife. Saddened by Constance's departure, Nebbercracker mourns for her and his house while clutching the only remnant of his house, the doorknob. DJ apologizes to Nebbercracker for his losses; Nebbercracker acknowledges that he and Constance have been trapped for 45 years, and thanks DJ, Chowder, and Jenny for freeing them from their misery.

Just as Landers and Lister are about to drive off, they hear a sound coming from the house and go up to investigate. DJ, Chowder, and Jenny watch in horror as both officers are eaten by the house. The house overhears him, breaks free of its foundations and chases Nebbercracker and the children to a construction site. DJ throws a stick of dynamite down the house's chimney, destroying it and setting Constance's spirit free. DJ tells Nebbercracker that he is sorry that the old man has lost his house and his wife but Nebbercracker thanks the boy for finally releasing his wife's trapped spirit.

Infuriated by this “betrayal”, Constance grabs her husband, intent on killing him too. Before she has the chance, Chowder fights her off using the excavator from the adjoining construction site. The kids then go to Reginald Skullinski, AKA Skull, a rumored expert on the supernatural. He tells them that what they’re dealing with is Domus Mactibillus, a rare breed of monster that spawns when a human soul possesses and merges with a man-made structure, and to defeat it, they have to go for the heart. Monster House is a 2006 American animated supernatural horror comedy film[3] directed by Gil Kenan in his directorial debut and written by Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab and Pamela Pettler. The plot revolves around a neighborhood being terrorized by a sentient haunted house during Halloween.
